"And if pigs could fly then surely so could I But this pedestrian knows better than to even try And my divinity is caught between the colors of a butterfly" -All There Is (Bad Religion)
Yes I know I skipped straight to the second one. That's because the first one was Shakira and an album I already upload. Maybe I'll come back to at the end. But Bad Religion! This is a band I got into back when I was well... listening to a lot of punk bands that started in the 70's and 80's XD The Descendants, Social Distortion etc etc. I don't know what else to say about them.
I don't think they're particularly exceptional but what they do? They do it well. With each release, you know exactly what to expect from them and if you don't like it you probably never will. But if you're a fan, then you probably love every single damn thing they've ever done. I appreciate this a lot actually. I'm sure more than a few of you have heard me rant about the bullshit Linkin Park pulled on their last album (it's the best example I can think of, Thrice also makes me feel this way but at least they were gradual about it so you can't fault them for doing what they want to do.) Bad Religion is doing something they enjoy and something that they're good at and everyone benefits.
Which is not to say they haven't grown. Any group that's been around for almost three decades is certainly going to change. The music is a lot more polished, in fact I actually think they're pretty incredible musicians from picking apart the tracks of their songs. Especially Bentley. The lyrics have matured a lot too, they can pull out some stunning metaphors when they want. Which brings me to my next point. I normally don't care for bands that are overly political. I can listen to some and even enjoy the music but if I feel like you're trying to throw your anti-conservative peta loving proactive ideology at me then the relationship is never going to be more than casual. Sorry. I just don't care.
But while Bad Religion never fails to bring up controversial political topics I never feel like they're preaching. I think this comes from the fact that even the bad has said they're don't actually feel THAT strongly about some of these issues. I feel like they're actually just trying to get people to think, in general, rather than just subscribe to one way of thinking. And I love that.
So the song I've chosen and the album I uploaded? I don't know if I have a specific reason for choosing them other than they're the ones I keep coming back to over and over again even though I have most of their discography. It should also be said that Epitaph is probably one of my favorite labels XD
